NANOWRIMO

    NANOWRIMO stands for "National Novel Writing Month"  this is a project that has been around since 1999.  It was created by Chris Baty and is funded by a not for profit group called The Office of Letters and Light.  NANOWRIMO takes place in November, arguably one of the busiest times of the year, lasts the entire month and challenges anyone willing to write a novel in the 30 days of November.  I did this with a group of volunteers last year and they really enjoyed themselves.  Luckily since they are students I can modify their word count goal (last years goal was 12,000 words).  If they signed up for the full blown NANOWRIMO their goal would be 50,000 words.

    I do not require any of my students to participate in this project but any are welcome to try and accomplish this amazing goal.  We typically will meet Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for about 30 minutes after school.  Students should keep in mind that they should still be writing the other days of the week to reasonably be able to reach their goal.

    Since some of the students who participated last year have moved to High School this year I've decided to allow High School students participate if they would like, they just need to be in my classroom no later than 3:30.  Please keep in mind that you are fully capable of going on this journey on your own, I just provide a sort of support group and sounding board for when we hit those mental walls in the creative process.
